Article: - Top tips for taming frighteningly frizzy hair

Frizzy hair in your teens can be really difficult to manage. It rebels and resists every attempt to control; with a mind of its own as if it’s trying to take over the world!  Also in many cases, frizzy hair is also thick, coarse and easily tangled.  All of these factors mean that you have a few challenges to face if you are to win the battle of the frizz! (And yes it really can be that dramatic.)  

But! You can be sure that once you have the power to tame your crazy curls, your hair will look amazing.  Naturally curly hair in great condition looks stunning and you’ll be the envy of all your mates.

Why does my hair get so frizzy?

Frizzy hair is actually just curly hair that is too dry.  Curly hair is often dry because the curl forces a layer of the hair outwards, leaving it more open to dehydration.  Those who are lucky enough to have a curl to their hair need to give it some extra-special care.  

You may well find your hair gets even frizzier when you dye it or use hot styling tools in an attempt to revive it. Unfortunately, this only makes it even drier and yes, you guessed it, even frizzier! It’s like one, big, never ending, relentless, circle of frizz!

Help! What can tame my hair?

Don’t worry! Don’t panic! Or you’ll just end up looking as crazy as your hair! There is plenty you can do to get your curls back under control.  You just have to focus on giving your hair plenty of hydration – and no we don’t mean washing it more often!  

Here are some tips for frizz free hair from the Oy! natural hair care team:

-    Wash your hair a couple of times a week using Green People's organic Moisturising Shampoo. It is filled with nourishment that is ideal for giving dry hair a moisture boost.

-    Condition your hair whenever you wash it – we suggest using one of Green People's organic conditioners which will help to repair damage to your hair and improve its uptake of water, therefore giving it the hydration it needs. Like a little drink of water for your hair :)

-    Do a special ‘deep condition’ every so often by leaving the conditioner in for half an hour or so before rinsing thoroughly.  This should be very effective in reducing frizz and much cheaper than going to the shop and buying everything on the shelf that has the word “frizz” in it.

-    Use cool water to rinse off your hair.  This will help the hair cuticle to close and reduce frizziness to give you a smoother look. Easy enough,

-    Rub wet hair with a towel and let it drip dry instead of blow drying – but be gentle!  Wet hair is really delicate and can be easily damaged, so try and pat your hair dry.

-    Try not to use any styling products or colour on your hair as they will make your hair even drier and damage it further.  

-    Have your hair trimmed regularly to get rid of those split ends.  Once the hair is split it can’t be fixed so the only option is to have it cut.

-    Borrow some products from the kitchen and get washing!  Rinse your hair with a baking soda solution to get rid of built-up products, and with lemon juice or apple cider vinegar mixed with water for a stunning shine.  

-    Have a healthy diet and drink plenty of water.  Try out taking wild seaweed capsules as these contain loads of minerals which are amazing for teenage hair, nails and skin!
