Come on we all know we should exercise and we also know why. Not only is it good for your health, it also keeps your body toned and looking good… Despite these obvious (in some ways more than others!) benefits, it can sometimes be a bit of a push to get out there and do something, especially if it the weather isn’t so good or you just aren’t feeling in the mood to even get out of bed.
However, we at OY! find that it is much easier to get something done if you actually enjoy it…. not a revelation, we know, but we’re just saying you need to find the sport for you even if school PE suggests there isn't one… exercise isn’t all nightmares of running around a hockey pitch, in the freezing cold, wearing stupidly small shorts, while a power crazy PE teacher chases you with a hockey stick!
So here are some different suggestions to get you exercising and (shockingly!) maybe even enjoying it!
- Trampolining. Bouncing away on a trampoline is not only a laugh, its also great exercise! According to NASA (yes, the space people!) jumping does good things to your lymphatic system, and has a similar detoxifying effect to a massage! As well as burning loads of calories and fat, the bouncing also helps digestion and it doesn’t harm your joints as it is low-impact, so really, no excuses!!
- Boxercise. If you like the social side of sport, exercise classes like Boxercise are a great way of getting to know people (although maybe not in your traditional way due to the fact you’re pretending to hit these people). Popular with guys and girls, it involves punching but not hitting (so basically it’s like invisible ninja fighting). It’s surprisingly good exercise, toning your muscles and burning calories, plus it is a great way to release pent-up stress.
- Body Jam. Love music and dancing? Try BodyJam. You get to dance to all sorts of music, from Techno to Hip Hop, and get fit at the same time! It is all choreographed – so you won’t be made to step up in front of everyone and show everyone your best dad-dancing – you’ll be taught all the moves.
- Wii Fit. If you like the idea of exercising without leaving the house, and only having little cartoon people watching you, this is a fun way of keeping fit. There is lots of different training you can do with the Wii Fit program, including yoga, aerobics, and strength and balance activities. It will monitor your progress and how long you have spent exercising so you know just how well you are doing.
